First General Session PTSA Meeting

Location of this PTSA Meeting will be in the HUB.

Learn how our PTSA supports the Robinson curriculum, the annual budget, and how you can get involved to support your child’s education. Directly following the meeting, Principal Jackson will be available to speak with parents. Please mark your calendar for additional meetings throughout the year: January 26, 2016 and April 26, 2017.

After School Enrichment Classes Begin the Week of 9/26

Online registration at www.mbxfoundation.org opens at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7. Deadline to enroll is September 21!

Our New Nurse

Ms. Monica Ruiz is a Los Angeles native. She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Her heart and compassion led her to work for the San Francisco Unified School District, at Tenderloin Elementary, as a literacy tutor and program leader working with high-risk youth. Ms. Ruiz worked with her amazing students for three years, supporting and encouraging them to do their personal best in everything they did. In the past year, she moved back to Los Angeles, and is looking forward to starting at Robinson as the new Health Nurse.

1st Grade Substitute Teacher - Lisa Leweke

Ms. Lisa Leweke will be a long-term substitute teacher during Mrs. Masciel’s maternity leave. She is originally from Danville, California, and graduated from Pepperdine University in 2013. Upon graduating, Ms. Leweke joined Fuhu Inc., where she helped develop an educational app for the Nabi tablets. She also worked as a retail merchandiser, educating retail stores on the Nabi products to help drive sales. This past year, Ms. Leweke taught in Manhattan Beach where she was most recently a part-time 1st grade teacher at Grand View Elementary.

Teresa Scott joins Robinson as an AM Kindergarten teacher.
Mrs. Scott is in her 12th year with Manhattan Beach Unified School District. She earned her professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at California State Dominguez Hills, with a minor in Psychology. Mrs. Scott started her career in education with the Long Beach Unified School District teaching Kindergarten, and first grade at Mark Twain Elementary School. Most recently, Mrs. Scott was at Meadows Elementary School teaching Kindergarten.

This brief survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. The survey may be taken once per IP address; we respectfully ask you to keep your responses to one per household.

Find Your Items in the Lost & Found by end of week!

The lost and found is overflowing! Parents, please come and check the lost and found (located outside the cafeteria) for any items your child might have left behind in the last few weeks. Many items were left behind at the talent show, and those items have all been collected and placed in our lost and found. Please come and find what is yours before the end of next week!

Talent Show DVDs and Photos Now Available!

Didn't our Riptides do a great job in the talent show? Now don't miss out on a chance to capture your child's act! Please remember to return your DVD order form to the school office as soon as possible. The DVDs are available for $40 and they will be available before the end of the school year. Planning for 2016/17 at Robinson

If you have an incoming kinder starting school for the 2016/17 school year, be sure you have completed the Pre-Enrollment Form and turned in all required paperwork to the office.

If your child will NOT be returning to Robinson School for the 2016/17 school year, please let us know in the office as soon as possible.

Congrats MBUSD Elementary Honor Strings!

Congratulations to teacher, Katie Cavallaro and her Honor Strings students!
MBUSD Honor Strings earned a Superior rating this weekend at the Knott's Berry Farm music festival! Superior is the highest rating possible, and it is reserved for truly distinguished performances. Additionally, the Honor Strings took first place in the string orchestra category.

Congrats to MBUSD Elementary Honor Band!

Great news!  Let's celebrate Mr. Nail, Mr. Stickman, and our 4th & 5th grade honor band members, from all five schools, for their GOLD rating at the festival in Irvine.

New Date for Robinson's 2nd Annual Maker's Faire - June 13

Do you love to build, design, tinker, or create? Robinson needs you! We are looking for parent volunteers to help us at our 2nd Annual Maker's Faire, a day filled with innovative projects. This year's Maker's Faire has been moved to a new date; it will be now held on June 13. Contact Amy Pham for more information or to volunteer.

MBEF Parent Survey

Take the new MBEF survey! MBEF is asking for parents' feedback and priorities. which will be critical to the foundation's future strategic direction and decision-making. Robinson Parents' Soccer Team

This year's Robinson parents' soccer team for the annual Jeff Goodrich Parents' Soccer Classic will be held on Saturday, April 30 at Mira Costa's Waller Stadium. Team Robinson will play against teams from each of the Manhattan Beach elementary schools, MBMS, Mira Costa, and elsewhere in the South Bay.

Robinson Family Fun Run an Amazing Riptide Success!

Congratulations to ALL Riptides on a run well done! Over 450 students, alumni, parents, teachers and staff, neighbors, and friends took part in one of Robinson’s largest and most cherished events. The 5K race included a warm up stretch by Ruby Ghaffar and Coach Branim, photos by Steve Gaffney, and an awards ceremony.

MBUSD Earns Green Award

Last week State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced that the Manhattan Beach Unified School District was one of five honorees in the state of California to earn the prestigious Green Ribbon Schools environmental award. With the statewide honor, MBUSD will advance to compete nationally in the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS) recognition program, which honors schools that conserve resources while promoting health and environmental literacy.

LA Phil for Kids

Break out of “the bubble” and head to LA’s iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall with your family for an afternoon of music and culture. Tickets are available for the Saturday, April 16, 11 a.m. performance of the LA Phil and a virtuoso cellist who will lead the audience on a humorous exploration of the role of the cello through music by Handel, Haydn and Mendelssohn. Whether or not your child plays cello or a stringed instrument, this is a wonderful way for your family to experience the LA Phil in a child-friendly atmosphere. Tickets are $15 per person.
